Thought Matters Ceramics Exhibition 2019

Material thoughts, within the material and from it;
Thoughts that change it,
Thoughts that it changes,
Thoughts that transform.
A conceptual range of ideas that descend to the level of the material, encounter it, and together explore the possibilities of creation and expression, including the space where matter and spirit meet.
This well-known annual exhibition brings new dimensions each year.
How can it be renewed year after year?
The answer lies in the spirit of the place.
The exhibition serves as a showcase of works expressing the personal space of each participant, viewing the individual as the center of their own world—guided by their desires and shaped through both personal and collective processes, while engaging with contemporary discourse.
It represents all students who study full-day programs in the department, with an emphasis on a range of levels.
The exhibition offers an individual perspective, grounded in the idea of the person as the driving force behind their own creation.
Alongside this, a broader perspective is presented, where the works are seen as products influenced by one another throughout their creation process—together forming a mosaic of a much larger whole.

The ceramics exhibition features over 500 works displayed across five different spaces, spanning sculpture and pottery. It presents a unique diversity of experimentation with the properties of the material, its processing, and various firing techniques.

The works stand out through their use of color and exceptional glazing, some resulting from specialized firing processes. As such, they express a perception of the material space as an experimental field—one that dares to test its boundaries anew in every stage of creation.

Some works also convey compelling conceptual approaches, emerging from a creative process that emphasizes the development of ideas and the interaction between material, form, and concept.

The Ceramics School—recognized as the largest of its kind in the country—within the Joint Art Center, together with its courses, enables ceramics enthusiasts to learn, experiment, develop, and exhibit.
