Through Other Eyes – Women 2017 Present:
"Surroundings"
Through Other Eyes – Women is a program that enables a group of Arab and Jewish women to become acquainted with one another's cultures through creativity, learning, and shared experiences.
During the program, the participants were introduced to photographers from Israel and around the world, became familiar with the features of the camera, and experimented with creating photographic images that tell a story. The program included photography sessions in the participants' homes and at Givat Haviva, a meeting with an artist, and a visit to a photography exhibition.
The course also included discussion sessions on femininity, culture, family, and the environment. These encounters exposed the women to worlds that were both similar and different.
These worlds became the raw material of the exhibition – contrasts intertwined within the same piece of land.
The environment emerged as the central theme. The earth, the place, the landscape – the piece of the world that we all love so deeply – was captured through the lenses of our cameras.
Within this environment, we highlighted the many facets of female representation.
Throughout the history of art, women were traditionally situated within the domestic spheres of the kitchen and hospitality. However, as women established their place within the world of artistic creation, these positions began to change. In this exhibition, the women step out into the world around them and explore their presence within it.
The question of presence in space, in the context of a Jewish-Arab women's group, cannot remain confined solely to issues of gender. It also raises questions of history and belonging to the place.
The exhibition casts a spotlight on the experience of learning, the encounters, and the many questions that arose and remained open.
There is no conclusion or summary here, but rather a women's proposal to re-examine our shared world.
