About the Exhibition

The exhibition presents elements from the shared experience and process the group went through together. It connects the documentary dimension of places and people that are part of everyday life with a staged, symbolic dimension representing feelings and thoughts about our situation here and now.

This time, the exhibition focuses on stereotypes and prejudices. The group members chose to examine the schematic ways in which groups tend to speak and think about one another. With apprehension, but also with honesty, they held up a mirror to themselves and said aloud to one another common words and expressions that Jews and Arabs use about each other.

We put on the table what adults usually say behind each other's backs. During the process, assumptions were broken down, expressions dissolved, and were transformed into images.

The exhibition also presents a series of personal cultural images based on everyday objects belonging to members of the group. Through these objects, the participants encountered the similarities and differences between the symbols of their shared cultures.

On the documentary level, the exhibition presents a series of human portraits in which the gaze plays a dominant role. In all the works, the gaze expresses and communicates the human experience. A series of outdoor photographs offers a view of the area in which we live, where the fence is ever-present—an area where the pastoral and the inconceivable exist side by side as part of everyday life.

In addition, the exhibition reflects the group's experience during its stay at a summer camp in the United States. The photographs weave together both the rich and observant way of seeing that the participants developed and the fact that they have now become more than a collection of individuals—a group in which the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

During 2016–2017, this exhibition will travel between the schools attended by the group members. This broad exposure is intended to allow the group to share and amplify its experience, process, and message, and in this way create encounters and dialogue with different communities: students and teachers, friends, family members, regional communities, and the wider community in Israel and abroad.
