The group exhibition “The Hill and the Spirit Within” presents a fascinating collection of works reflecting the times, ideas, and activities of Givat Haviva throughout its seventy years of existence.

The 22 participating artists all originate from the Kibbutz Artzi movement—the same kibbutzim that founded Givat Haviva and shaped both its vision and its practice. Among the artists featured are Avital Geva, Guy Bar-Amotz, Amit Kabessa, Michael Kovner, Shaul Kenez, Yaakov Shufer, and many others. The exhibition brings together works from a wide range of artistic fields, including painting in various techniques, photography (including documentary photography), video, sculpture, indoor installations, and outdoor installations.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, artist and archivist Yuval Danieli published a book recounting the story of Givat Haviva from a historical perspective. The exhibition, inspired by the pages of this book, represents a further step in reflecting—through the personal, free, and critical artistic gaze of artists deeply connected to the place and its origins—on the ideas, values, and principles that have shaped the agenda of Givat Haviva within Israeli society, and in recent years also beyond it around the world.
