Black Tray - Current Exhibition
On Saturday, October 16, 2021, a solo exhibition by Aisha Arar will open at GH Art Gallery in Givat Haviva. The exhibition will feature paintings, drawings, video, performance and visual texts. Aisha, a young and talented Arab artist, is a graduate of the Jaljulia Art College. This is her first solo exhibition in Israel.
The exhibition deals with the spaces between the female and male poles; between the extremes where Aisha lives as a woman, a religious person and an artist in Arab society in Israel, and those that exist in/for every woman: the helpless, imprisoned and submissive place that often suffers from violence and in its extreme state will end in murder; And the free, wild, and powerful feminine state that is capable and allowed to ask what true love is, and enjoys the freedom of choice and expression fully without fear. The two are found in Palestinian folk tales passed down orally by women from generation to generation. Aisha takes these folk tales to the forefront as they appear in the exhibition with her personal artistic interpretation in a series of video works; Works created in collaboration with various women's groups, one in dance (with the Nua Dance Company) and one in music (with musicians from the Musica Nova ensemble).
Can opposite extremes live side by side, and if so, how? The exhibition experience takes the viewer from the world of fairy tales and fantasy, creation and life to the world of reality, power relations and control, violence and destruction, through a poignant, free and wild gaze.
