TOUGHT MATTERS - CERAMICS EXHIBITION 2019

CURATORS: AVNER SINGER AND THE TEACHING STAFF

Material thoughts, of clay and from within it;

Thoughts that change it,

Thoughts that it changes.

Thoughts that change.

A conceptual diversity of thoughts that descend to the height of the clay meet it and investigate together with it the possibilities of the artist and the potential of expression, including the space of the encounter between clay and spirit. Each year this well-known, annual exhibition brings with it new dimensions. How can it bring innovations every year anew? The answer lies in the spirit of perception of the place.

The exhibition serves as a display window of artistic works that express the personal place of each one of the students, by looking at the person as the center of her/himself, according to her/his desires and in a personal, collaborative process, while at the same time exposing her/him to the current discourse. The exhibition presents artworks of all the students who study in full-day classes in the department, with emphasis put on the different levels.

The exhibition brings a perspective of the individual, based on viewing the person her/himself as a driving force that sets the artist's work in motion. In addition, a broader viewpoint is presented, in which the artworks are perceived as products influenced by each other during the process of creation; as such, they create together a mosaic composed of a much broader whole.

The ceramics exhibition presents over 500 ceramic works exhibited in five different spaces from the realm of sculpture and pottery, which bring a unique variety of experiencing and experimenting with the clay's properties, processing it and firing it. The artworks are outstanding for their use of unusual color and glazing. Some of them are the outcome of special firing processes. As such, they express the perception that the spaciousness of the creator's clay is the experiential spaciousness that dares to examine the limits each time anew in all the components of her/his creative process. Some of them express fascinating conceptual perceptions, the result of creation emphasizing development of ideas and interaction among clay, form and idea.

The Ceramics School, recognized as the largest school in the country for ceramics – in the Collaborative Art Center – and its courses enable lovers of ceramics to learn, experiment, develop and exhibit!

The exhibition closes on 26.7.2019.
